José G. Vázquez

José Vázquez is a Mexican-born artist, poet, photographer, and writer who has lived in Charlotte, NC, since 1996. A self-described artisan, he creates paintings, sculptures, photographs, and literary works, often using found and upcycled materials to explore themes of transformation, memory, and cultural identity.

José is the author of Icarus Flies by Night and ESCONDIDA: poemas breves para Virginia, and has founded several literary and arts organizations, including ArteSanos de la Palabra, Voz ES, and MAS+ Arte. He also hosts Vino & Poesía, a bilingual poetry series that promotes local writers and community engagement.

His work has been exhibited at institutions and galleries including the Mint Museum, the Levine Museum of the New South, the McColl Center, the VAPA Center, UNC Charlotte, Johnson C. Smith University, and Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery. Through his visual art, poetry, and photography, José examines the connections between personal history, culture, philosophy, and the human experience.
