HEARTS for the Holidays

HEARTS Winter Wisdom '25 - Saturday, December 6th, 2:00 - 5:00 PM at historic Cedar Grove in Huntersville

You're invited to join us for an annual seasonal treat, HEARTS Winter Wisdom! Enjoy a fascinating afternoon of storytelling, with the theme of “winter wisdom” interpreted by guest storytellers interwoven with history, beautiful holiday music, nature notes, dance, and art at Huntersville’s historic Cedar Grove, Saturday, December 6th, 2:00 - 5:00 PM, 8229 Gilead Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. Free to the community, tickets are required and donations are greatly appreciated.

This year’s distinguished storytellers include Ramona Big Eagle, who will share profound Cherokee winter wisdom; Betty Jane Caldwell, recounting the heartfelt narrative of “Christmas in the Quarters,” and Chris Simeral, who will delve into captivating Scots-Irish stories passed down through the centuries.

Featured Dance

Be thoroughly awed by the exciting and much-anticipated return to Cedar Grove, where the Moving Spirits dancers will be presenting captivating performances inspired by Winter Wisdom. These performances skillfully blend both modern and traditional dance styles, creating a unique and mesmerizing experience for all who attend.

Featured Live Music

Sing and tap your toes to the original and holiday tunes performed by members of the talented Mike Strauss Band, featuring singer/songwriter and guitar, Mike Strauss, Troy Cohn on guitar, Jon Schigoda on stand-up bass, and HEARTS co-founder Randolph Lewis, who will likely jump in on a few songs too! Their lively performance is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.

Featured Visual Artists

Guests will also have a unique opportunity to meet and hear from the talented artists whose work is currently featured in the new Center Hall exhibit, "Into the Fields."

This special exhibition is a vibrant collection showcasing the creativity of four distinguished local artists: Doris Baharona, Michelle "Bunny" Gregory, John "Trey" Miles III, and Leigh B. Williams.

The artists will be on hand to discuss their inspirations, techniques, and the deeper meanings behind the pieces that comprise the "Into the Fields" collection. The exhibit is presented in partnership with Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery.

Yaupon Holly & Mistletoe

Throughout the event, we are delighted to weave in "Eco-minutes." We will explore the history and preparation of Yaupon Tea, the only caffeinated plant native to North America, uncovering its significance to indigenous cultures and its modern-day revival as a sustainable beverage. Furthermore, we will shed light on the ancient lore and fascinating biology surrounding Mistletoe, moving beyond its modern holiday association to examine its ecological role, its surprising medicinal history, and the myths that have made it a symbol of life and renewal even in the depths of winter. These short features are designed to spark curiosity and offer attendees winter wisdom insights into the enduring power and beauty of nature.

Plus, you can get a head start on your holiday shopping at our festive Pop Up Market, benefiting the Hugh Torance House and Store! It will be held in Cedar Grove's charming Pink Room, featuring holiday favorites like Dewey’s thin cookies, Spicebush seasonings, Torrance/Wu Soy Sauce, and other gourmet delights, plus local honey, jewelry, books, and other artisan crafts. If you miss our pop-up shop at Cedar Grove, visit the Hugh Torance House and Store on Sundays from 1:00-4:00 PM for additional shopping opportunities.
