2026 HEARTS Season
Happy New Year from HEARTS!
2025 was an incredible year for HEARTS. Our robust slate of HEARTS Happenings once again blended local history, art, and nature into captivating place-based programs, in and around Huntersville, with a nod to the fearless residents of our region and their incredible contributions to the American Revolution.
In 2026, we will continue spotlighting local connections to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. HEARTS looks forward to sharing these exciting, real, local connections and contributions with you soon, and when we do, you can expect to encounter history, nature, live music, and the arts intertwined throughout!
However, HEARTS Collaborative does much more than just provide free, top-notch community programming. HEARTS is also an active force in local historic preservation by protecting, connecting, and supporting other special local places. When you support HEARTS, you support these efforts.
The clock is ticking to save Brevard’s Chapel! You can help save this special place!
Don’t Let Our History Be Erased
The most critical project for 2026 is saving Brevard’s Chapel in Lincoln County. Last February, it was announced that the chapel would be demolished. HEARTS in collaboration with many local organizations successfully brokered a pause in the demolition, but we must make progress toward the $650,000 goal, or our efforts will be lost. This is a real-time, tangible opportunity to save an iconic landmark in the Lake Norman/Charlotte region and create a sustainable historic destination for the Denver community in the future. For all of you who have ever felt a desire to preserve our special old places and the stories they hold, this is your chance. We’ve got six months to show significant progress. Please support this campaign; together we can do this!

Save the date for March 28, 2026, for a stellar HEARTS gala to save Brevard’s Chapel, presenting history, nature, and the arts at the privately owned historic Machpelah Presbyterian Church, which was recently granted National Register status. Sponsor tables and benefits are available now, with limited individual tickets available in February. Email Abigail@heartscircle.org for more details.
This is the time to help; please do not wait. It’s either now, or there will be no more Brevard’s Chapel in the future. By saving this rare artifact, a priceless Carpenter Gothic gem, we are sharing history through a visible and vital connection to the past. If erased, a legacy is lost. Saving Brevard’s Chapel now is our only chance to preserve this very special place, as well as the landscape on Campground Road in Denver.
New Local History to Share
As we’ve been fundraising, we’ve also been researching the history of Brevard’s Chapel. Through a HEARTS committee led by our renowned HEARTS Reunion Project Co-chair, Andre’ Kearns, we now have a well-documented history of Henry Brevard, the freed Black man of Lincoln County who became a local blacksmith and gave the land to build the church. In addition, Andre’ published this compelling blog yesterday, From Enslaved Ironworker to Sacred Ground: Why Brevard’s Chapel Still Matters.
We look forward to sharing more of this research with you at upcoming HEARTS happenings and at HEARTSCollaborative.org, as we continue our journey of exploring Brevard’s Chapel history.

Help HEARTS Do More
We are enthusiastic to share that your support is doing more than ever to preserve and connect our communities throughout the region. If you are a HEARTS member, we sincerely thank you and hope we can count on your support in 2026. We have one more request, too. Bring a friend this year when you join us for a HEARTS Happening. You’ll both be glad you did. The more people within our community who learn about HEARTS, the greater the impact we can have in preserving, connecting, and sharing our region. We hope to see you at an upcoming event soon, and HEARTS thanks you for caring about our local history, nature, and the arts.
